unit 11

Electricity and Magnetism

In this lab i enjoyed a lot learning about something that has the potential to be dangerous.  This was seen in the one day where we had some presentations from Mr. Adams that he said were dangerous and that we shouldn't do it at home.  Some of this stuff included shooting a magnetic bar, and levitating a copper tube.

My favorite lab from this was the thing that we did on the computer.  I enjoyed virtually messing around with resistors, light bulbs, and switches.  It made it easier to understand how certain parts of an electrical system work.

Some vocab words from this unit are:

Parallel system

Magnetism

Transistor

Ohms

Resister

Unit 10

Waves and sound

I really enjoyed this chapter because i could relate it to music.  I can now somewhat visualize the waves of sound when using and amp, singing, or even playing drums. One interesting thing that we did that i found to be hard to understand was the tuning fork exercises.  How it only worked at a certain height showed how sensitive sound can be.

My favorite lab from this unit was The slinky lab.  I enjoyed doing this but it was hard to focus with my funny and outgoing team mates.

Some vocab words from this unit are:

Node
Anti- Node
longitudinal , transverse, standing wave

Unit 9

Light Behavior

My favorite thing that we did in this unit was messing around with the laser and putting it through different substances.  For example putting it through glass is much different than putting it through plastic of water.

My favorite experiment from this chapter is the electromagnetic spectrum.

Some key words from this chapter are:

Reflection
Refraction
Divergent
Convergent

UNit 8

What did you learn?

Mostly i learned about what kinds of energy things have.  I now understand how impacts and accidents work a little better.  I like the idea that something has potential energy.  It is interesting that we put a value on something that doesn't really exist.

Equation or main point?

KE = 1/2mv^2

PE = mass x g x height

Favorite lab?

Honestly my favorite lab was the one we did for the lab practical with the test.  I enjoyed the idea that the water balloon wasn't very stable and could pop.  Also when it hit the box it made a funny movement and noise.  Maybe i like this lab because i am a guy and this lab is similar to a wrecking ball, and guys tend to like breaking things(:.

Chapter 7

What activity i enjoyed?

i enjoyed dropping the egg off of the balcony the most.  Of course i enjoyed this because i dropped it.  IT showed me how long impact time can save lifes in crashes.

What i learned?

I learned about impacts and collisions.  It showed me how airbags are good, and it makes sense now why cars are designed a certain way.

What are the main points?

impulse-momentum theorem

fat =mav equation

Unit 6

Best activity?

Atwood's machine was fun, but me and my group could get carried away with making it go too fast.  I liked the idea of increasing and decreasing on one or both sides.

Challenging?

A lot of the equations we confusing to me such as the friction symbol and other relations.  This unit was pretty hard but the most relatable to the stuff around me.

Main Ideas?

Force Diagram

Friction

Newtons 2nd law

Unit 5 - Forces in Equilibrium

Best activity?

Even though it wasn't a major activity i thought the hover craft in class was cool.  I would have so much fun riding one of those in a large open spaces with ramps and stuff.

Challenging?

This was a very challenging unit for me.  I didn't really understand the relationship between SOHCAHTOA and the values of certain things in the equations.

Main Ideas?

SOHCAHTOA

Newtons First LAw

Newtons Thirds LAw
